In 2003, the municipal council decided to start the infrastructural work around the sports center.

 

In 2006, specialists were hired to prepare a preliminary study for establishing a sports center in the town.

 

The board reviewed and approved the permit plans in 2007.

 

In 2011, an important phase of the construction was completed including the exterior structure, the courtyards and roads leading to the complex, to begin later building the roof and the stands of the stadium.

In 2013, the lighting systems, the roads paving as well as the infrastructural works were achieved.

 

In 2014, works moved to the outside courts. While, in 2015 the flooring was completed, the closed stadium was fully equipped with seats, and a power plant was installed.

 

On April 4th 2017, the municipal council decided to renovate Nouhad Naufal Stadium and in accordance with the new international standards adopted by the international basketball federation (FIBA) in order to host the Asian Cup for the national teams. This renovation included some modifications in the lower part of the stadium, as well the heating and cooling systems and the acoustic treatment in the closed court.

In 2017, the Asian Basketball Cup for the national teams took place at Nouhad Naufal Stadium, as well as theWorld Cup qualifications for the national Basketball teams in 2018-2019.

 

In April 2019, the largest concert hall in the Middle-East was inaugurated in Nouhad Naufal Stadium.
